{"id":2575,"date":"2016-08-15T03:12:58","date_gmt":"2016-08-15T03:12:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pascaleditions.com\/peterthomassimon\/?p=2575"},"modified":"2016-09-20T13:28:54","modified_gmt":"2016-09-20T13:28:54","slug":"trump-on-the-ropes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pascaleditions.com\/peterthomassimon\/trump-on-the-ropes\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump On The Ropes?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">The weeks that followed the end of the Democratic Convention have been marked by a drop in poll numbers for Donald Trump, not to mention a towering, near-monolithic avalanche\u00a0of media abuse directed at the candidate.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Seeded among the venom has been the repeated claim that Trump\u2019s numbers have dropped to such unprecedented lows that his loss in November is a mathematical certainty set in stone.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>All Republicans can do, advise this chorus of tattered remnants of #NeverTrump and non-Republican pundits, is dump The Donald like the radioactive hot potato that he is.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">One has to wonder if they really believe this, since the dominant tone among such pundits is not relief that Trump is on his way out. \u00a0If anything, it&#8217;s resulted in even more over-the-top absurdity in the attacks, such as the fact-checking done by Politico to prove to the public that Obama\u2019s name is indeed not on a DBA somewhere as Official Founder of ISIS.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">While the accusations vary, though, the message is consistent.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Throw in the towel, Donald.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s Game Over.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">But is it?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0Are <\/span>the poll numbers really\u00a0<em>that<\/em> bad?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Prior to the Republican National Convention, Donald Trump was running about five points behind Hillary Clinton in the General Election, according to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/\">Real Clear Politics<\/a>, which averages several polls to get the general picture.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The RNC put Trump briefly in the lead with a post-Convention bounce.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The DNC put Clinton back in the lead with a post-Convention bounce.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Added to that DNC bounce was the gargantuan rage and furor exploding over Khizr Khan, the presentation of\u00a0Trump\u2019s NRA speech by the media as a call for assassination, and the ISIS Founder uproar, not to say a variety of lesser excruciations &#8212;\u00a0the perennial, Philip Glass-like repetitions of \u201cunfit,\u201d \u201cmentally unstable,\u201d \u201cplunging in the polls,\u201d and, of course, \u201cracist,\u201d endlessly pouring down on Trump\u2019s coiffure\u00a0like boiling oil over medieval parapets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Yet what has been the result?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>As of August 14, 2016, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/epolls\/2016\/president\/us\/general_election_trump_vs_clinton-5491.html\">Real Clear Politics numbers<\/a> put Trump behind by 6.8 points.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>In short, only 1.8 points higher than before four full days of Trump-bashing at the RNC plus weeks of the Perfect Media Storm that followed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">And those aren&#8217;t the\u00a0very latest General Election numbers on the RCP site.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>What do <em>those<\/em>\u00a0numbers say?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">August 12, LA Times: Clinton +1.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">August 11, Reuters: Clinton\u00a0+6,<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">August 10, Bloomberg: Clinton\u00a0+6.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Since Wednesday, then, the average is: \u00a0Clinton\u00a0ahead by\u00a04.3 points. <em>\u00a0One<\/em> point if you only look at the very latest poll.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">It would seem that\u00a0at the moment\u00a0Trump is doing a little better vis-a-vis\u00a0Clinton than he was doing before his Convention.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>He&#8217;s still behind, true. \u00a0But given the traditional wriggle room of 3 percentage points plus or minus, the candidates appear to be just where they were before &#8212; running about neck and neck.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">So why does the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2016\/upshot\/presidential-polls-forecast.html?action=click&amp;contentCollection=upshot&amp;region=rank&amp;module=package&amp;version=highlights&amp;contentPlacement=2&amp;pgtype=sectionfront\">New York Times Upshot\u00a0<\/a>page proclaim \u201cHillary Clinton Has An 87% Chance Of Winning The Presidency\u201d?<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Self-indulgent wishful thinking?<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Well\u2026 yes.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">Clearly, based on the polls number alone, <\/span>Trump should still be viewed as a viable candidate. \u00a0But are the numbers the only reason? \u00a0Consider:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Historical Precedent<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Jimmy Carter came out of his Convention with a 30 point lead over Ronald Reagan.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Reagan won handily. \u00a0The current Trump-Clinton spread pales by comparison.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>\u201cHidden\u201d Trump Supporters<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Pollsters have long noted that Trump supporters are willing to say that they support Trump <i>if <\/i>they can say it anonymously.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The major polls cited by papers are either not anonymous or far from securely anonymous, and so the vote for Trump may well be higher than it appears. \u00a0How much higher? \u00a0We don\u2019t know.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0Possibly a lot. \u00a0It&#8217;s even possible\u00a0<\/span>Trump is actually in the lead.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Declining Poll Reliability<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The classic example is Brexit, where every professional poll indicated a Brexit loss, and the actual vote resulted in a decisive Brexit victory.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>How could they <em>all<\/em> have gotten it so wrong?<em><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/em>One may speculate, but the analogy to Trump is plain: when no less a (Democratic!) pollster than Pat Caddell <a href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/radio\/2016\/08\/01\/pat-caddell-on-cooked-reuters-poll-never-in-my-life-have-i-seen-a-news-organization-do-something-so-dishonest\/\">rakes Reuters over the coals<\/a> for &#8220;cooking&#8221; the &#8220;dishonest&#8221; numbers, one may reasonably question poll accuracy.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Of course it might not matter if Clinton were 87 points ahead.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>But, despite the efforts of the <em>Times<\/em> to make it appear so, she isn\u2019t.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>She\u2019s either one point or six points or more likely somewhere in between at the moment.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">And it doesn\u2019t take a lot to turn that around.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">Voter\u00a0<\/span>Turnout<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">People who are asked over the phone if they&#8217;ll vote for a candidate don&#8217;t always go to the polls.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>What is the turnout record, then, those who have gone out to vote for or support Clinton and Trump?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Answer: Clinton got fewer votes in the primaries than she did when running against Obama in 2008, and her rallies attract hundreds.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Trump rallies are overflowing, attracting tens of thousands, and Trump garnered more votes in the primaries than any Republican candidate in history.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">If a good many pro-Trump supporters turn out, while a good many Clinton supporters stay home, could that turn things around?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It could.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>And, paradoxically, it becomes all the more likely the more the press assures us of Trump&#8217;s absolute unelectability.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>If a Clinton victory is a <em>certainty,<\/em> why bother to go to the polls?<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">(Yes, Trump voters might feel that way and sit out the election too. \u00a0But then Trump voters have appeared in force at recent rallies despite the recent thunderstorm of predictions of doom and supposed poll declines. \u00a0Past performance predicts future performance.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Breaking Scandals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">I assume no scandal will affect Trump\u2019s numbers for the simple reason that Trump as such is a walking, talking 24\/7 scandal.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I do not say this to mock the man, but rather to point to the reactions he inspires.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">If Trump turns down a Coke, the next day\u2019s <em>Washington Post<\/em>\u00a0headline will play it as Trump&#8217;s schizophrenic dog-whistling bigotry against Hispanic cocaine smugglers.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>If Trump gives an interview and simply sits there quietly while uncharacteristically thinking a bit before answering, the global media would erupt for a week\u2019s time with doctors diagnosing his raging Alzheimers, as retired Democratic generals featured on CNN draw apocalyptic scenarios over the trembling dotard fingers of his small hand on The Nuclear Button.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">These weekly performances have become as stylized as classical Kabuki.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Trump says <em>x<\/em>, and the mainstream media, experts, pundits, celebrities scream and weep in lockstep chorus for a week\u2019s time. \u00a0Then Trump says <em>y,<\/em> and on it goes again.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Strangely, this has made him almost scandal-proof. \u00a0What could be possibly do or say now that would make the media more frantic than they already are? \u00a0There&#8217;s no next level to take it to. \u00a0The only way the press and news channels can amp it up further is to hit notes only dogs can hear.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Hillary &#8212; though amazingly adept at getting the media to ignore, overlook, or even defend her staggering drawbacks as a candidate &#8212; is not <em>quite<\/em> so immune to scandal.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0They don&#8217;t bring her down, but they do seem to dog her interminably. \u00a0And several major ones are coming together now, none of them small, and none of them\u00a0<\/span>distant.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Leaks<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">First is Wikileaks, but not only Wikileaks. \u00a0True, their release of materials related to the DNC blew Debbie Wassermann Schultz clear out of the water, and launched an ongoing and disorganizing bloodbath &#8212; perhaps literally, in the case of Seth Rich &#8212; in the form of staff purges.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">More is promised to come regarding the Clinton Foundation, and more is already surfacing elsewhere.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0Guccifer 2.0 has dropped additional material.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Her deleted emails are said to be floating around the NSA.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 All will take their toll, but\u00a0<\/span>Julian Assange in particular has said that <em>his<\/em> coming material will beyond a doubt\u00a0result in Hillary\u2019s indictment, and rumor has it he\u2019s merely waiting for the right moment to drop it \u2014 an hour before the first debate, say, before the spin doctors can bury it or explain it away.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Most Americans already believe Hillary is a criminal and should be indicted by the FBI \u2014 itself hardly an indicator of strong pro-Hillary voter turnout.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>She will look like even more of a crook shortly, and then even more of a crook than that. Is there really<em> no<\/em> tipping point where the electorate may feel that Trump&#8217;s incompetence pales before Clinton&#8217;s supremely competent criminality?<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>The FBI Strikes Back<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Then there&#8217;s\u00a0the FBI.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>James Comey may have folded cravenly, and Loretta Lynch may dine with Bill the day before investigations of the Mrs. are dismissed, but non-Washington-based FBI offices are so unhappy with Comey and the DOJ that they are going ahead with investigations into the Clinton Foundation regardless.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>New York attorney Preet Bhasara in particular has a reputation for bulldog tenacity and incorruptibility and appears to be determined to unearth all he can about corruption at the Clinton Foundation.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It is an archeological site of Tutenkhamenesque scope and splendor.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 Such i<\/span>nvestigations will not strengthen Mrs. Clinton in her contest with Trump.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>The Grating Debates<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-2584 \" src=\"http:\/\/pascaleditions.com\/peterthomassimon\/wp-content\/uploads\/saturday_white_fever.jpg\" alt=\"saturday_white_fever\" width=\"321\" height=\"470\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pascaleditions.com\/peterthomassimon\/wp-content\/uploads\/saturday_white_fever.jpg 492w, https:\/\/pascaleditions.com\/peterthomassimon\/wp-content\/uploads\/saturday_white_fever-205x300.jpg 205w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 321px) 100vw, 321px\" \/>Another looming crisis for Hillary is the approaching debates.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 P<\/span>ost-debate polls have consistently shown Trump to be the popular winner in such contests. \u00a0And why not? \u00a0Trump may loathe the media, but he is comfortable on stage, practiced before the camera, and entertaining.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Hillary\u2019s stiffness is legendary.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">It is approaching nearly a year since Hillary has had a full-on press conference, the one quirky exception being a talk with minority journalists only where she confessed to &#8220;short-circuiting.&#8221;\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0(Rumor has it that her doctors are afraid camera flashes may set off <em>petit mal<\/em> seizures.) \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">Hillary has already frozen before hecklers in rallies.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>God knows how she\u2019ll react when confronted by Trump. <\/span>I have little doubt the moderators will do all they can to treat her gently if not actively defend her from Trump. \u00a0But Trump himself will not be gentle in the least.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Clinton may surprise us, but I doubt it. \u00a0Those <em>petit mal<\/em> rumors aren&#8217;t the only ones. \u00a0There are videos of her having apparent seizures, needing help up a flight of steps, gaping catatonically when confronted.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 Medical doctors have diagnosed the videos and the behaviors as advancing Parkinson&#8217;s or after-moments of stroke. <em>\u00a0Something<\/em> certainly appears to be up. \u00a0<\/span>In a debate with Bernie Sanders, she excused herself to go to the <i>bathroom<\/i>, a Presidential debate First, and she is currently requesting that the Trump debate be done with the debaters\u00a0seated rather than standing.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Should she lose it on stage in some manner, it might well get her personal sympathy, but I doubt it would get her votes, particularly when given the much-mentioned matter of handling nuclear codes. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">But even if Hillary performs without a hitch, she isn\u2019t likely to outdo Trump.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The simple fact is, he\u2019s fun to watch.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>And seeing his natural stand-up improv routine as he makes faces and brags and dithers all but instantly deflates media attempts to portray him as a Hitler.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">Mere<\/span>ly appearing should shift numbers in Trump&#8217;s favor. No small part of the reason Trump hasn&#8217;t been moving up of late is simply that he has not been on screen as much.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Whenever he has been, in the debates, or during the convention, his numbers have risen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Will he <i>win<\/i> the debates? That isn\u2019t the issue.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 If\u00a0<\/span>the past is any indicator, the press will give every debate to Clinton, and the popular polls will give it to Trump.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">What matters is not whether Trump does well, but whether he is likely to do worse than he&#8217;s doing now. One can&#8217;t think how. \u00a0Now is about as bad as things are likely to get for Trump. The press has done everything humanly possible to come up with a Klan hood tucked under his hairpiece or some Ailes-style dirt on the man. \u00a0No luck.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The media don&#8217;t need actual evidence to tar and feather a person, of course, but you can&#8217;t nail someone to the wall for an unthinking racist remark when you&#8217;ve been calling him a racist morning to night for the better part of a year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">There really is nothing on the horizon that is likely to worsen the picture for Trump. There is only the same old Kabuki, where Trump makes an offhand remark, and the press goes ballistic. \u00a0Trump is at baseline: \u00a0he can only go up.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Hillary, by contrast, has been spared the daily forty media lashes, but from here on in she will have to dance through a minefield. \u00a0And she is apparently having problems even getting up the stairs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Tick Tick Tick&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">For Trump crisis has become so routine the electorate is deadened. \u00a0His supporters believe nothing that is said about him, his detractors believe anything that is said about him. \u00a0Nothing that happens can affect him, and <em>anything<\/em> that\u00a0happens will only find him getting more of the same treatment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Not so Hillary. \u00a0Her capacity to evade<em> legal<\/em> censure is majestic, but still\u00a0she is facing one ticking bomb after another. \u00a0The sheer stress of multiple scandals sure to break any minute, the possibility of another fall or blood clot, new FBI attentions, a slip-up in her medication\u00a0or an email break-in into her medical history,\u00a0possible sabotage from a Bill who is not inclined to be First Lady, or an Obama who would rather his administration gleam brightly against the darkness of Trump\u2019s than merely be the precursor to Hillarycare\u2026 Mrs. Clinton is driving over more potential trap doors than one can easily count.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Minority support? \u00a0Without Obama at the head of the ticket, the black vote in 2010 dipped and in 2014 dropped so low it resulted in a Republican Congress. Expectations that the black vote will be as large for an elderly white woman as it was for a black man is fantasy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">And then there is the factor of luck. \u00a0One reason Khan&#8217;s attack went over so well is that no ISIS attack occurred at that time to distract from it. \u00a0If an incident similar to Nice had occurred in Philadelphia the day after Khan spoke, the press would have been reluctantly forced to cover the incident &#8212; an incident likely only to generate more votes for Trump.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">We may safely assume that more such incidents will occur before the November election. How often, how spectacular they are, how much Trump benefits, and how artfully Hillary manages to square them with her calls for increased Muslim immigration, could well influence vote count.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The same holds for urban rioting. \u00a0As this article goes to press, Milwaukee is burning. Apparently a black police officer shot a black gunman and up the city went. \u00a0More injured police hospitalized; more media appearances by Black Lives Matter; more votes for Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Merely<em> hoping<\/em> that no more such things occur between now and November is not a plan, much less formula for victory. \u00a0But &#8212; like more email leaks, more legal investigations, like the coming debates &#8212; they are waiting in the wings to happen, and each time they do, Trump gets stronger.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Trumpophobia Fatigue<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">It <i>is <\/i>possible that the press will ignore every last such bloody street incident and every dark Clintonian blemish. \u00a0It&#8217;s possible that the media will concentrate solely on splashing\u00a0every Trump smear imaginable over every second of screen time and every inch of print they can from now till the election.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">But there are<em> three months<\/em>\u00a0left to go. \u00a0And my sense is that the electorate is getting far sicker of the relentless assaults on Trump than they could ever get of Trump.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>In the past few weeks Trump has been accused of being a Soviet agent, hating babies, calling on the NRA to assassinate Hillary, and thinking that Obama and Hillary incorporated ISIS personally.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>And of being Hitler, <em>and<\/em> a closet liberal, of course.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">How much further in this direction can the Fourth Estate go? \u00a0What will the next accusation be? \u00a0That Trump crucified Christ personally? \u00a0Will it be bestiality? Will we learn that Trump is a reptilian shape-shifter? Will Francis\u00a0name him Anti-Christ? \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">At some point not only does it all become just too unbelievable, it gets harder even to pretend to believe it.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 O<\/span>utrage is not a common everyday feeling. Trump clearly seems to inspire it, or at least good impressions of it, in the press, but can we really expect them to maintain it at fever pitch for <em>months?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/em>If the press does not burn out, the public will.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>And it is not Hillary Clinton who will profit from that exhaustion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>The Art Of The Comeback<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In conclusion?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>People writing Donald Trump off now are being as foolish as those who wrote him off in 2015.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Let us remember that back then every last pundit of note, with the sole exceptions of Ann Coulter and Scott Adams, gave Trump no chance whatever of ever winning anything, and these same pundits predicted ceiling after ceiling and downturn after downturn every step of the way.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">All of them were dead wrong.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">Media estimates of Trump&#8217;s chances have been mistaken at every point, and at <em>this<\/em> point even the pretense of objectivity has been tossed aside.
